Since all the other member of this board (and by all I mean Mickey and volcanogirl since no one else posts here ) are from Europe, can someone tell me if universal health care actually works as a system. I keep hearing and reading how better it is in place like the U.k. and Canada, but others say that this kind of system is exaggerated and made to look utopian, kinda like socialism (lets face it, it is a form of socialism). I saw a short film with Canadians saying that their surgery keeps beeing pushed to latter dates, long lines in hospitals ect. From my understanding England has universal health care, how has that been working out for ya, would you guys say that this system is worth it, does it deliver actual results in your countries. I ask this cuz Im waiting for Michael Moore's "Sicko" to open in theaters, and I know how much Moore is know to exaggerate.

Thanks for the answere. I keep reading about this issue and and really seems to divide the U.S. I would image everyone would want health insurance, but there is always someone trying to stop this kind of "socialism" from happening. I hear Germany has both a socialized and primate health system, which sound pretty good and should make the ultra capitalists happy. As to the funding of the system, we might have a hard time in the U.S. because we refuse to cut the military budget. Well, I guess thats the price we pay if we want to be the worlds greatest ass kicker

Yeah, I know about that story. I know where the hospital is as well. Dr.King hospital is not really a "hospital" its a morgue. Its located near the city of Watts, one of the poorest in the LA area. That is why I have my doubts that socialized medice may work here. The US government and state governments ignore anything that is considered a "social program" and the quality of the service tend to be bad or, in the case of that poor lady, deadly. My gf and I have jobs that provide really good health care, but not everyone in the country is that lucky, according to statistcs 45 million arent that lucky.
